THE CHALLENGES

Unique problems only marinas face

The marine environment is the most hostile setting for technology: salt, extreme humidity, long distances over water and yacht owners with world-class connectivity expectations. Generic technology simply doesn't survive.

WiFi That Doesn't Reach the Docks

Yacht owners expect connectivity while aboard. Standard indoor access points die within months due to saltwater exposure and don't reach the furthest docks. The result: VIP owners complain about WiFi — the same complaint that drives them to competing marinas.

No Access Control at the Docks

Anyone can freely walk through the fingers and board the yachts. Without access control at the entrance to each dock, there's no way to know who is in which area, when, or to detect unauthorized people near multimillion-dollar vessels.

Cameras the Marine Environment Destroys

Generic CCTV cameras cannot withstand constant exposure to salt, marine humidity and wind. They degrade in weeks and the low-resolution video fails to identify people or read vessel numbers when an incident occurs on the water.

Infrastructure Without Lightning Protection

Marinas are high electrical-risk environments due to proximity to water. A lightning strike can destroy an entire dock's technology infrastructure in seconds. Systems not designed for marine environments lack adequate surge protection.

THE SOLUTIONS

Infrastructure designed to survive the sea.

INALAMBRICA.US designs and installs UniFi infrastructure specifically selected for marine environments — IP67-rated equipment, per-finger and dock access control, long-range WiFi over water and corrosion-resistant 4K surveillance.

Network Security with Lightning Protection

All dock network infrastructure is installed with surge suppressors at every PoE point and surge protection on field switches. Underwater cabling and conduits are sealed and rated for marine environments. Switches and APs have additional corrosion protection on their connectors.

IP Intercom at Marina Entrance and Docks

UniFi Intercom panels at the marina entrance and key pillars on each dock let boat owners receive visitors and crew without being present. The call reaches the owner's mobile phone — with video — and they can remotely open the dock gate from anywhere.

Digital Signage: Marina Announcements, Conditions & Services

UniFi Connect screens in the marina lobby, nautical bar and wash-down area display weather conditions, weather bulletins, operational notices, marina services and the berth directory. The harbourmaster or administrator updates everything in real time from the remote dashboard.

THE BUSINESS CASE

The investment that protects your marina and attracts masts.

Greater Attraction & Retention of Boat Owners

World-class marinas compete for the best masts. Premium yacht owners choose their marina not only by price but by service quality — high-speed WiFi and secure access are decision factors on par with draft depth and fuel services.

Protection of High-Value Assets

A million-dollar yacht without adequate surveillance is a liability for the marina. Per-dock access control and 4K cameras at every berth protect boat owners' assets and reduce the marina's legal exposure in the event of theft, vandalism or water accidents.

Full Remote Marina Management

INALAMBRICA.US's NOC team monitors all infrastructure 24/7 — detecting a fallen AP on Dock F before the owner of berth 23 calls to complain. Updates and credential management happen remotely, with no emergency technical visits or marina operation disruptions.

USE CASES

Solutions for every zone of the marina

Berth Docks and Fingers

Each finger has its own IP67 access point on the main pillar providing WiFi to the berth. The dock gate has a UniFi reader that only opens for registered owners and crew. A camera at the end of each finger covers the full berth with real-time 4K video.

Club House & Social Areas

The clubhouse, nautical restaurant, pool bar and members' lounge have high-density WiFi for members and guests. VLAN separation ensures the marina's administrative network never shares traffic with guests. Screens display weather status and available berths.

Parking & Main Entrance

The main vehicle entrance uses plate reading for club members. The parking area has 4K camera coverage on all levels. Visitors and crew without registered access use the intercom at the main gatehouse — the harbourmaster approves access from their tablet.

Fuel Area, Travelift & Dry Storage

The highest-risk areas — fuel pumps, travelift zone and dry dock — have cameras with fire and motion detection at maximum sensitivity. Fuel area access requires an active credential and can only be operated by certified marina personnel, with automatic logging of every operation.

"
We had the classic marina problem — WiFi that reached Docks A and B but completely dropped off from Docks C through G. INALAMBRICA.US deployed IP67 access points on every pillar and now all boat owners have signal aboard their yachts. The dock access control put an end to unauthorized people at the berths. The investment paid for itself in three months.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The models we select for marina installations carry IP67 certification (submersible to 1 meter, resistant to dust and salt spray), UV-resistant polycarbonate housings and anti-corrosion treated connectors. We mount them on anodized aluminum poles and seal them with marine-grade sealant. In installations with over 3 years of tracking, the corrosion failure rate is under 2% per year.

Water doesn't block 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio signals — in fact, the flat water surface can act as a reflector. The biggest challenges are interference and distance. We use high-power UniFi outdoor access points with directional and omnidirectional antennas matched to the marina's geometry, achieving reliable coverage of up to 500 meters over water.

Yes. We install access readers at the entrance gate of each finger or group of fingers, programmed with the credentials of the owners of those specific berths. The owner of berth 15 cannot access Dock 30's arm. Registered crew has access specifically to their vessel's dock. Visitor and service provider access is managed with temporary codes.

For coverage in open water beyond the docks, we implement UniFi Point-to-Point solutions with long-range antennas that can extend WiFi coverage several kilometers offshore, covering anchorage areas and navigation channels. For yachts that venture further, the system includes LTE SIM management as a connectivity backup.

Our full marine installation includes: inline surge suppressors at every PoE point on pillars, dedicated grounding for all field infrastructure, fiber optic cable wherever possible to eliminate exposed copper, and UPS units in the central technical rooms. Field switches also have internal surge protection. The network design minimizes copper link distances and high-risk paths.
