The Most Extreme Challenge in WiFi Design

A stadium with 40,000 fans represents the pinnacle of high-density WiFi design. The basic intuition of adding more APs fails catastrophically here: more high-power APs create more interference, not more capacity.

The Counterintuitive Principle: Low Power, High Density

Small Low-Power Cells: Instead of 10 powerful APs, we deploy 200 low-power APs mounted under seats and section dividers. Each AP covers 50-100 people. Signal is intentionally weak so phones don't see APs from other sections.
  • Under-Seat Deployment: APs mounted below seats aim directly at the seated audience, maximizing useful signal.
  • Aggressive Band Steering: All devices are pushed to 5GHz and 6GHz, leaving 2.4GHz only for low-bandwidth IoT.
  • Strict Airtime Fairness: A phone with weak signal consuming excess airtime is throttled to protect 99 neighbors.
